Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of Day 1 of the first Group A game of the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy between defending champions Karnataka and Bengal in Bangalore. Karnataka won the toss and asked Bengal to bat first. Bengal riding on Sudip Chatterjee’s century made 312 runs on the first with the loss of nine wickets. Chatterjee made 145 and was duly supported by Wriddhiman Saha who made a brilliant 90. Bengal will hope that they reach 350 by tomorrow morning.
Karnataka will be banking on Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey’s batting and they will hold the key to Karnataka’s batting in this match. It will be a hard task for Karnataka’s batters. Fans will also look forward towards the batting of Karun Nair and Mithun A. Although Karnataka won the last two Ranji Trophies back to back still Bengal cannot be taken lightly by them and by posting a hefty total Bengal have proved why they are a tough and competitive side in this year’s Ranji Trophy. For Karnataka, both Vinay Kumar and Sharath HS took three wickets each on the first day. Mithun A and Shreyas Gopal also contributed by picking one wicket each. Karnataka will be looking to end Bengal’s innings quickly tomorrow morning by taking their last wicket cheaply. Read all Ranji Trophy 2015-16 team previews here
