Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of Day Four of the Group B game of the 2015-16 edition of Ranji Trophy between Mumbai and Railways at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. After Railways’ resolute display with the bat on Day Three the most obvious result seems a tame draw with Mumbai taking first innings points. But since Railways have a 171 run lead with nine wickets in hand they may look to explode, find some quick runs and make a declaration that could give them a faint chance of taking an outright win. Mumbai will be quite content to take the draw in the match.
Ranji Trophy 2015-16: Points Table and Team Standings after Round 7
Live Cricket Score: Mumbai 178/3 | Overs 39 | Target 295 | BATSMEN: Shreyas Iyer 79(97), Aditya Tare 7(8): From here, Mumbai need another 119 runs and with Shreyas Iyer on crease, this task is not impossible. Railways’ S S Mishra struck twice to remove MUmbai opener Akhil Herwadkar and Surya Kumar Yadav, leaving Mumbai at 168 for 3 after 37 overs. Meanwhile it is a great opportunity for skipper Tare, who has been having a bad patch with the bat, to play a winning knock. OUT! Akhil Herwadkar c & b S S Mishra 75(111) OUT! Surya Kumar Yadav c & b S S Mishra 3(7)
Live Cricket Score: Mumbai 71/1 | Overs 15 | Target 295 | BATSMEN: Akhil Herwadkar 40(48), Shreyas Iyer 17(30): At lunch, Mumbai has nine wickets to spare to chase down another 228 runs wityh today being the last day of the Round 7. Anureet Singh struck early for Railways when he removed Mumbai opener J G Bista in the fifth over. He scored 10 off 11 delievries before giving a catch to Mahesh Rawat. OUT! J G Bista c Mahesh Rawat b Anureet Singh 10(11)
The star performer on the third day of the match was Saurabh Wakaskar who scored an unbeaten 161 at stumps and will eye the double hundred on the fourth day. He received great support from Ashish Singh first and then V Cheluvaraj. Ashish scored 44 runs before falling to Vishal Dabholkar leg before wicket. Cheluvaraj batted on till stumps alongside Wakaskar to score 70 runs in a frustrating and deflating 180-run unbeaten partnership.
Mumbai probably did not try to hard and did not see it necessary to bend their backs that little bit extra since they are already in a comfortable position in the points table and with three points to come from this game if it is to end in a draw, it would not hurt them. It will be interesting to see how Railways approach the match on Day Four. If they make a sporty declaration, things will turn on its head. They must look to bat one to one and a half hour to take the lead to 300 and then declare.
