New Zealand were 77 for one in their second innings at stumps on the third day of the second Test against England, 134 runs in arrears after being forced to follow on.
Peter Fulton was not out 41 with Kane Williamson on 16. Monty Panesar picked up the sole wicket of Hamish Rutherford.
New Zealand were dismissed for 254 in their first innings in reply to England’s 465.
Earlier, New Zealand were all out for 254 in their first innings on day three of the second Test, trailing England by 211 at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on Saturday.
Tea was taken at the fall of the last wicket and England gave no immediate indication whether they would force the follow-on.
