Good Morning, शुभ प्रभात! Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog session of Day Three of the ongoing semi-final of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 between Mumbai and Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat and Jharkhand, being played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, and Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground in Nagpur respectively. I am Paulami Chakraborty, and I will be bringing to you the live updates from this today’s action. As things stand right now, Mumbai currently trail Tamil Nadu by 134 runs in the first innings, while Jharkhand trail Gujarat by 176 runs in the first innings. With the semi-finals being played for five days, it is uncertain who are favourites to win these ties.
Earlier, Mumbai reached a total of 171 for 4 at stumps on Day Two. Aditya Tare (19) and Shreyas Iyer (24) are currently holding the fort for the defending champions after they lost 3 wickets. Mumbai are still trailing Tamil Nadu by 134 runs. Tamil Nadu could only add 44 runs to their overnight score as Shardul Thakur and Abhishek Nayar took 4 wickets each to bowl them out for 305 while Balwinder Sandhu and Vijay Gohil took a wicket apiece. With three more days of this semi-final remaining, this game is evenly poised and is expected to yield more action as the days’ progress by.
Meanwhile, the second semi-final match between Gujarat and Jharkhand, Gujarat, who resumed their batting on Day Two at 283 for 3, were bowled out for 390. In reply, Jharkhand’s batting line-up crumbled but Ishan Kishan quickfire 59-ball 61 kept the side’s hopes alive as they enter Day Three. They ended the day at 214 for 5. Earlier, Gujarat batsmen batsmen Priyank Panchal and Manpreet Juneja couldn’t add much to their overnight tally. Panchal missed his 150, falling a run short of it, while Juneja made 22. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals.
