After a rain-affected Day One that saw a little over 65 of the scheduled 90 overs take place on Day 1, South Africa and England resume hostilities on the second day of the ongoing first Test at Durban on Sunday. This is Vishal Mehra, and I shall be presenting to you the live updates from the game as and when they occur. England started their innings perilously, getting reduced to 49 for three at one stage thanks to a destructive early spell by Dale Steyn, before half-centuries from James Taylor (70) and Nick Compton (63 not out) helped the visitors recover from the early blows and place themselves in a commanding position. Steyn however, managed to get the last laugh at the end of the day, dismissing Taylor as the umpires called for stumps. Day Two should witness another intense battle between bat and ball, with the South Africans fixing their eyes on Compton in order to prevent him from causing any further damage. Both South Africa and England lost their last Test series’ against India and Pakistan by 0-3 and 0-2 margins respectively in subcontinental conditions. That will motivate the two sides to excel in what are familiar, pace-friendly wickets of South Africa. England earlier, were dealt with a massive blow when pace spearhead James Anderson was ruled out of the first Test due to a calf injury. That leaves Stuart Broad in charge of the pace attack that consists of the likes of Steven Finn and Chris Woakes, with additional support from all-rounders Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali.
