Good Morning, Goeie more, සුභසන්ධ්යාවක්! Hello, and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog and updates’ post of the first day of the second match of the three-Test series between hosts South Africa and visitors Sri Lanka, at Newlands in Cape Town. I am Chinmay Jawalekar, and I will be bringing to you all the live cricket updates from today’s action. South Africa are currently leading the series 1-0 after notching up an emphatic 206-run win over Sri Lanka at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth last week. Hosts’ skipper Faf du Plessis will be happy with the form their batsmen have shown so far, while the bowling could improve going ahead in the series. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, has to fine tune things across the board in all departments of the game.

South Africa did not show any signs of missing their star players in Dale Steyn, AB de Villiers and Morne Morkel in the first Test. Openers Dean Elgar and Stephen Cook have managed to give the side solid starts time and again, enabling the attractive looking middle order to play they natural game at will. The only cause of concern for du Plessis is the form of Temba Bavuma, who scored just 3 runs in the first Test.

The bowling has been taken care by the likes of Vernon Philander and Kyle Abbott. Rabada looked out of place at times in Port Elizabeth but knowing his skills and talent he will be expected to bounce back. Keshav Maharaj too bowled his heart out in the first Test to pick 4 wickets.

For, Sri Lanka their bowling remains the main concern. In helpful conditions, Suranga Lakmal and Nuwan Pradeep created problems for the hosts, while looking absolutely ineffective when conditions suited the batsmen. With Dushmantha Chameera having injury concerns it could very well mean the inclusion of Lahiru Kumara. Sri Lanka might also rope in the experienced Upul Tharanga in the middle order for Kusal Perera.

Squads:

Sri Lanka Test squad: Angelo Mathews (c), Dinesh Chandimal (wk), Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kaushal Silva, Dhananjaya de Silva, Upul Tharanga, Lahiru Kumara, Nuwan Pradeep, Dushmantha Chameera, Suranga Lakmal, Dilruwan Perera, RanganaHerath, Vikum Sanjaya
