Sri Lanka take on England in the third One-Day International (ODI) at Hambantota on Wednesday. The hosts lead 2-0 in the seven-match series after two resounding wins. The hosts will be without the services of Mahela Jayawardene, who has decided to sit out of the match due to personal reasons.
The Lankans have been in dominant form in the series far, not giving England any room to breathe in the two games. It has been a great turnaround for the hosts, who were handed a 0-5 series defeat a by India before this series. The batting department, especially the top-order, has been clicking against the English attack.
For England, the most disappointing part of the tour so far has been the lack of consistency shown by the bowling department, reflecting in the way the hosts have milked them for runs. While the inclusion of Steven Finn in place of Ben Stokes for the second ODI did not turn out to be a disappointing one, the selectors might want to take a second look at Harry Gurney’s place in the playing 11, given that he has gone wicket-less in the series so far after leaking a lot of runs.
Squads:
England: Alastair Cook (c), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Jos Buttler (wk), Steven Finn, Harry Gurney, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan Eion Morgan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, James Taylor, James Tredwell, Chris Woakes.
Sri Lanka: Angelo Mathews (c), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kusal Perera (wk), Kumar Sangakkara, Lahiru Thirimanne, Jeevan Mendis, Thilina Kandamby, Ragana Herath, Dilruwan Perera, Ajantha Mendis, Shaminda Eranga, Dhammika Prasad, Thisara Perera, Lahiru Gamage.
