Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant from Stokes. How well has he taken the pace of the ball and utilised the conditions tonight. He started the penultimate over with wides but came back hard to give nothing away by resorting to his main weapon of full length deliveries and yorkers. Only 7 coming from the over as RPS need to defend 17 off the final over.

    ” style=”font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; clear: both;”>

That’s it! Too much drama in the game but it finally goes to RPS’ hands. They defended 17 off the last 6 balls as Jaydev Unadkat held his nerves despite being hammered off a big six. He removed him off the very next ball and after that it was always ‘catching up’ for MI. So, MI’s unbeaten streak finally comes to an end. Terrific performance as they kept themselves involved despite dropping catches. Rohit Sharma came back to form but couldn’t help his side overcome the battle. Ben Stokes was the stand out performer by chipping in with vital wickets and applying the brakes on the scoring.

RPS get the better of MI again in IPL 10 and take the Maharashtra Derby in their favour. Two vital points for RPS as they are slowly coming into their own. They have found a combination and are delivering especially with the ball. That’s it from CricketCountry on this match but do join us for RCB vs SRH tomorrow. Goodnight.

Just what was not required for RPS. Jaydev Unadkat bowls the 18th over and goes for 11 runs. Two fours coming from in-form Hardik Pandya’s blade as Rohit also helps himself to his first fifty of the edition. Overall #30. MI still requires 24 off 12 balls.

MI on top here. Tahir went for some runs and Rohit Sharma means business here. Things looking certainly out of hand for RPS. They were restricted with the bat, created half chances but weren’t able to capitalise with their ordinary fielding. Shardul Thakur comes into bowl the 16th over. Will he turn things around with Pollard-Rohit in the middle?

    ” style=”font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; clear: both;”>

Is there a twist in the tale? Pollard departs going for a glory shot as Smith holds onto an easy catch at the deep. Tahir produces a match-winning over by conceding only 4 runs and turns the complexion of the match. Rohit and Pandya in the middle and the required run-rate is upto 13 now.

RPS desperate for wickets but they are still far away from any success. Thakur bowled the 16th over and conceded 9 runs including a huge maximum coming from Rohit’s blade. Safe to say, he is back in form. He has taken charge of the chase and ensuring MI do not falter. Only 39 required off 24 balls. This should be easy.

Stokes gets rid of Karn Sharma against the run of play. He was sent up the order to accelerate and just when he was taking things forward with Rohit Sharma, Stokes came in and produced a wicket with another slower as Karn went for a big shot and paid the price.

Buttler departs amidst run flow as Ben Stokes gets the first wicket for RPS. After a flurry of boundaries, Buttler tried to get the better of his English teammate but a slower one wasn’t well deceived by Buttler and he gave a simple catch to long on..

    " style="font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; clear: both;">

Rana departs as Dan Christian comes into bowl and gets rid of the man in form. He had no control over his shot and departed for only 3 runs. Rohit Sharma joins Parthiv Patel in the middle. Pune suddenly making a match out of this. Rohit needs to be send quickly. Will Smith introduce Tahir for obvious reasons? 😉

    ” style=”font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; clear: both;”>

Some beautiful shots by Rohit Sharma which will bolster his confidence as it comes against a leg spinner. As expected, Smith introduced Tahir with Rohit in the middle. He got turn straight away but Rohit was up for the challenge and played against the turn to get two back-to-back boundaries. After 10 overs, MI 68 for 3. Interestingly poised.

An ordinary start from Shardul Thakur. He goes wayward as Buttler gets two back-to-bak boundaries and stamp his authority. RPS cannot afford to be erratic with the kind of total on board and on a small ground. MI bat deep and chase well. This will be a one-sided affair if RPS do not take wickets regularly.

  • 9:56 PM IST

RPS, on backfoot after producing an ordinary show with the bat, have started off the defence with Washington Sundar in the first over. Jos Buttler and Parthiv Patel deal in singles to begin with, and keeping in mind the form Mumbai batsmen have been in, it should be a walk in the park.

  • 9:38 PM IST
RPS 160/6 in 20 overs, Christian 8*, Sundar 2*: Bumrah bowls the last over and Tiwary gets some valuable runs for his side before falling for 22. Boy, he is timing the ball well in these death overs. Like he did vs RCB, he has fired again and helped his side get over 160+ on board. MI would still be happy as they chipped in with wickets and kept things quiet in the middle overs. Smith, Dhoni and Stokes failed after the start provided by Rahane-Rahul. MI should get this with the kind of form they are in and the caliber they have while chasing. Join us in 15 minutes for their reply.
  • 9:30 PM IST
RPS 142/5 in 18 overs, Christian 4*, Manoj 12*: Has it become so easy to dismiss Dhoni? He never seemed like carrying on from where he left against SRH. Bumrah came in, bowled a good length and Dhoni anticipated a pull but chopped onto the stumps. The ball did not bounce as much as he expected. Dane Christian comes in the middle to join Tiwary as only 6=5 comes off the over. RPS falling apart after a steady start.
  • 9:24 PM IST
RPS 137/4 in 17 overs, Dhoni 7*, Manoj 11*: Johnson gets rid of Stokes off the first ball. Manoj Tiwary comes in and smacks two back-to-back boundaries. Since when has he become a finisher? Doing a good job for RPS in this edition. Overall, 11 runs coming off the over. RPS need more. At least 30 in the last 3.
  • 9:21 PM IST

  • 9:17 PM IST
RPS 126/3 in 16 overs, Dhoni 7*, Stokes 17*: McClenaghan bowls the 16th over and gets away with only 6 runs. MI are mixing it up and bowling the length bowls close to the stumps. Stokes managed a tricky four, between his legs, past the fine leg region but the run-rate needs to rise up. MI won’t be challenged unless RPS cross the 170-run mark.
  • 9:12 PM IST
RPS 120/3 in 15 overs, Dhoni 6*, Stokes 12*: 9 coming off Bumrah’s over. Dhoni has looked calm as ever and pushed Stokes for some vital runs. Stokes, on the other hand, will like to take on the bowlers with Dhoni aiming to stay till the end. He won’t fire till the 18th over. Till then, others can take charge. Rohit, on the other hand, is shuffling his bowlers from time to time to inject breakthroughs.
  • 9:07 PM IST
RPS 111/3 in 14 overs, Dhoni 4*, Stokes 5*: A tidy over from Johnson. This is what a wicket does. He goes for 7 runs but concedes a four to Stokes to help him get off the mark. It must have been an attempted yorker but he missed it completely. It was full and down the leg and Stokes just had to get bat on ball.
  • 9:04 PM IST

  • 9:02 PM IST
RPS 104/3 in 13 overs, Dhoni 2*: Harbhajan dropped Smith in the previous over and now gets rid of him. What a comeback. Not much harm done. The bigger picture is that Bhajji gets his 200th T20 wickets. A big scalp to achieve this feat. He kept it tight in the first five balls before dropping it a bit short and slow as Smith was early in his shot and got clean bowled for 17.
  • 8:56 PM IST
RPS 100/2 in 12 overs, Smith 15*, Dhoni 0*: All happening out there! Karn dismisses Rahul as he went for another maximum and almost had Smith as well. However, Harbhajan made a mess of it at deep square leg and missed a sitter. Smith hammered the next ball for a four as Karn dropped it short and the Australian punished him with ease.

RPS’ two most experienced campaigners, Dhoni and Smith, in the middle and they will like to bat for long to take RPS to a challenging total.
  • 8:50 PM IST
RPS 88/1 in 11 overs, Rahul 45*, Smith 3*: Another tidy over from Bhajji. He keeps it to the stumps and doesn’t give enough room to the batsmen as they are content with seeing him off carefully. Only 5 coming from the over. RPS should be eyeing over 170 here.
  • 8:48 PM IST
RPS 84/1 in 10 overs, Rahul 43*, Smith 1*: MI finally gets a wicket! Rahane was outdone by the extra bounce as he tried to cut expecting a leg break and gave a simple return catch to Karn. Nonetheless, still an expensive over as Rahul continues to slog with the sweet portion of the bat. He waited for a leg break and swept it hard to earn a six. He is joined in by Smith as we are halfway stage of RPS’ innings.
  • 8:41 PM IST
RPS 74/0 in 9 overs, Rahane 37*, Rahul 35*: Just 5 singles from Bhajji’s second over as both the openers are happy rotating the strike and not doing anything silly in between. Bhajji has kept things tight but someone has to break in and chip in with a wicket.

Pune have a 2-1 head to head record against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium. However, with their ongoing form, can Pune emerge victorious in this tie is the million dollar question? It is certainly not going to be an easy task for Pune, as Mumbai have been in top form and is evident with the hosts being at the top of the points table. The momentum is firmly with the home team at the moment.

Mumbai are coming off a fine victory over Zaheer Khan’s Delhi Daredevils (DD) by 14 runs courtesy of Mitchell McClenaghan’s three-wicket haul. As for Pune, they won a thriller, with Dhoni coming back to form, and striking an unbeaten 61, while Rahul Tripathi struck a commendable 59. Dhoni smashed all over the park and brought up the win, striking a boundary, with just a ball to spare.
