Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja conjured to put up a crucial partnership to rescue India after the hosts suffered a batting collapse to reach 120 for five at halfway.
Rohit and Jadeja stitched a 61 runs to stabilise the Indian innings.
Chasing a modest total of 212, openers got India off to a positive start scoring runs at eight runs-per over.
But just when things looked steady for India, Kemar Roach struck to dismiss Parthiv Patel (12).
Departure of Parthiv set off a mini collapse in the Indian batting order as Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli followed suit in space of three overs.
Andre Russell dealt double blows to India as he sent back dangerman Virender Shewag (20) and Suresh Raina (5).
At the end of 25th over Rohit was batting on 40, while Jadeja was unbeaten on 22.
