Shaun Marsh and Ashton Agar have been chosen in Western Australia’s squad to play in the Matador Cup, next month, although both of them are carrying injuries and might not be able to become a part of the team in the early stages of the tournament. Fast bowler Jason Behrendorff is also set for a comeback as he has been named in the squad and will return to play after January, when he featured in the BBL and sustained a stress fracture of the lower back. Western Australia though, have named a full-strength squad for the ODI tournament, with only Mitchell Marsh unavailable due to international duties and Nathan Coulter-Nile out due to injury.
Shaun Marsh’s broken finger and Agar’s shoulder injury will however mean that they will join the team in the later stages of the tournament, in which case, Western Australia can apply to Cricket Australia for replacement players. “It’s great to see Jason [Behrendorff] back in the squad after a long time out,” Justin Langer, coach of the Western Australia team, said. “He’s a consummate professional with his rehab and has been diligent throughout so we’re confident he can return to his best during the Matador Cup. It’s great to have Adam Voges here to lead the side, while we’ve got good experience with players like Michael Klinger and Nathan Rimmington around him,” he added.
Western Australia squad: Adam Voges (c), Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Jason Behrendorff, Hilton Cartwright, Michael Klinger, Shaun Marsh, David Moody, Joel Paris, Nathan Rimmington, Ashton Turner, Andrew Tye, Jonathan Wells, Sam Whiteman
