Despite Harmanpreet Kaur’s superb fifty, India Women fall short of West Indies Women by 15 runs. India Women got off to a disastrous start as they lost the wicket of VR Vanitha off the very first ball off the innings, run out by Stefanie Taylor. West Indies Women never let go of their control over the match as they managed to pick up the wicket of Smriti Mandhana and Meghna Singh cheaply, to reduce India to 32 for 3 in their opening six overs. Meghna looked in good touch, smashing a couple of boundaries and a six, before she was removed by Hayley Matthews for a 20-ball 19. Still, they needed 10 an over when the score in the 13th over read 70 for 3. Harmanpreet and Veda had gotten their eye in by now and had to stay at the crease till the end for India Women to win the match. It looked difficult looking at the West Indies Women bowling, but not impossible at the same time. Harmanpreet had already started accelerating and she had found a stable partner in Veda, who was willing to rotate strike. Veda and Harmanpreet brought up their 50-run stand, but need to score at over 11 an over in the last five overs.

India Women finally brought up their 100 after 17 overs. The still needed 40 to win from there off just 18 balls. Harmanpreet had already struck a couple of big sixes and was determined to take India Women to a win. Harmanpreet brought up her fifty off just 44 deliveries and needed to keep going. India Women still needed 28 to win in the final two overs. They managed to get just 12 off the final two overs, with Harmanpreet finishing with an unbeaten 60 and Veda with 31 not out. The pair added 92 for the fourth wicket, yet could not get India Women over the line.

Hayley’s 47 and Stefanie’s 44 not out had taken West Indies Women to 139 for 4 in their 20 overs. Considering the start they had, they would have been disappointed not to have made at least 160, but the total they got in the end eventually turned out to be enough. West Indies Women skipper Stefanie won the toss and decided to bat first. West Indies Women went into the match with an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series, after winning the first two matches with ease. India Women had earlier on the tour completed a 3-0 clean sweep over West Indies Women in the One-Day International (ODI) series.
