Australia Women’s captain Meg Lanning met Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull. Turnbull assumed office on September 15, 2015. He is a leader of the Liberal Party and is the 29th Prime Minister of Australia. The two powerful and popular Australians discussed cricket. Lanning met Turnbull within just a few hours more than a day since the latter assumed office. The PM lauded the team’s efforts on winning the Women’s Ashes 2015 and also their good performance which has been consistent for the past many years. In a conversation with cricket.com.au she said, “I was a little bit nervous and there was a lot of media there because it was his first function [as prime minister]. But once we got there and met him it was a really good event. It’s obviously nice to get support from the government and Malcolm was very supportive of us and congratulated us. So it’s nice to be recognised and get some support from the prime minister. I only spoke to him very briefly, but [Opposition Leader] Bill Shorten spoke to us and he knew a lot about cricket so that was good to have a discussion with him. I had a few questions lined up (for Turnbull about the leadership of the Liberal Party) but I didn’t quite get to ask him,” she giggled.
