Australian skipper Meg Lanning ascended to the top of the women’s ICC rankings in One-Day International (ODI) and T20s, boosting Australia along with Steven Smith, who holds the number one rank in Tests, to produce world’s current best batters. The 23-year-old Lanning was the leading run-scorer in the recently concluded three-match ODI Ashes series against England, posting 195 runs including a century in the second match in Bristol which was her sixth in ODI cricket. She was followed by teammate Ellyse Perry who took the second place on the table of most runs with a total of 193. Once you get to 50 and 60 as a number three you’ve really got to go on and make those big score, because that’s what wins your team games. Fifties and sixties are good, but if you get that big score that’s what’s going to put you in that good position,” the opening batsman said.
