Mumbai Indians faced a defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 7 at the Wankhede Stadium. Opener Rohit Sharma had a good start, but he failed to make it to a great score, getting dismissed by Yash Dayal. After the 12-run loss, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene came to shield Rohit, as he lost to another left-arm pacer.

For right-handed batsmen, left-armers [dismissal] is a natural thing,” Jayawardene said in the post-match press conference.

It’s been there for many years. I can remember Vaasy [Chaminda Vaas] doing the same thing for many teams, Wasim Akram doing the same thing, so it’s just a natural angle. I’m sure Rohit’s been working on it, he’s been practising hard and he’s a very experienced player,” he added.

In his outing of 7 balls, Rohit Sharma hit a few fours and a six, scoring 17 runs during his outing. Yash Dayal got rid of him with an inswinger. The former Sri Lankan captain stated that Rohit is trying his best to work and improve his game.

He was trying to give us a good start and he played some really good shots. [Dayal] actually bowled a good ball. It was late-swing and fuller, got through Rohit’s defence. When you have played the game for that long, you need to sometimes give credit to the bowlers as well. I wouldn’t read into that too much, but yeah, it’s something that I’m sure Rohit will work hard on,” he concluded.
