England batsman Michael Carberry is set to undergo tests this week over the condition that was caused six years ago due to life-threatening blood clots that was formed in one of his lungs. Carberry had felt sick last week that kept him out of Hampshire’s current County Championship match against Warwickshire as his county side are unwilling to take any chances with his health. In the absence of Carberry, Hampshire were still in control on Day 1 against Warwickshire at Edgbaston. Liam Dawson scored his maiden First-Class hundred as Hampshire posted 304 for 4 at stumps of Day 1. READ: Michael Carberry’s mysterious ways of throwing his wicket away

Dawson batted superbly throughout the day and reached his ton off 169. The 26-year-old’s 155-run fourth-wicket stand with Adam Wheater (89 not out) helped the visitors post the huge total on the opening day of the match. Hampshire won the toss and chose to bat at an overcast Edgbaston.

According to ESPNCricinfo, the Hampshire first-team coach Dale Benkenstein said, “He has had a problem that has not cleared up in the way we had hoped so his going to have some tests done. We are hoping to have him back for the T20 matches later in the week but in view of what has happened to him in the past we do not want to take any risks with him. It is a little bit worrying but hopefully the tests will show that everything is fine.”

The English cricketer has been under medication to control the condition, which emerged after he had suffered attacks of breathlessness while fielding and batting. He was diagnosed with two blood clots on a lung in November 2010 and did not play again until July of the following year.
