Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc underwent a surgery, which required 30 stitches, following a shin injury he suffered during a fielding training on Thursday in Sydney. Despite the injury and the surgery, Cricket Australia (CA) is confident that the fast bowler would recover and be back on time for the Test series vs South Africa in Australia in November. He was earlier on Thursday injured after he collided with an equipment during a fielding training, as he was quickly rushed to the hospital, while he seemed to be in immense pain. Following the consultation by team doctor John Orchard, Dr. Richard Saw accompanied him to the hospital, while he was ruled out of the upcoming ODI series in South Africa.
“Mitchell was taken to St George hospital in an ambulance this afternoon suffering a deep laceration to his left shin after colliding with some training equipment,” said John Orchard, Cricket Australia Chief Medical Officer. “Fortunately there were no bone fractures or tendon damage to his leg and he underwent surgery this afternoon to clean the wound and received approximately 30 stitches. He will remain in hospital for the next few days to minimise movement to his leg and will use an extension brace for the next 2-3 weeks until his stitches are removed. At this stage, barring any complications, we are hopeful he is on track to play at the start of the Australian summer,” he added, reports Cricbuzz.
Earlier, Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc was hospitalised after sustaining a cut to his leg during a practice session at Sydney. Starc was participating in a training drill and fell awkwardly on his left knee, hitting a piece of the training equipment as well. The medical team immediately rushed to Starc’s aide, after Starc was lying down in discomfort. Starc hospitalised after sustaining injury during training
The injury was deemed serious enough for the medical staff to call an ambulance in and rush the speedster to the nearby hospital. Starc has already been ruled out the series against South Africa, but will play a huge part when the Proteas tour Australia for a Test series after their tour of South Africa, according to cricket.com.au.
