‘Most of the time, we were out…’: Hardik Pandya addresses his fumbles to be the main factor for MI’s loss to GT

As Mumbai Indians lost to Gujarat Titans by 3 wickets in a rain-affected match in the Wankhede Stadium, Hardik Pandya accepted that the no-balls he bowled, along with the fumbles by rest of his teammates were the main reason his team lost.

Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya stated that the no-balls he bowled and his teammates were a ‘crime’ as the team lost to Gujarat Titans (GT) by three wickets. In the race to playoffs, rain came in favour as MI were five runs ahead in DLS.

The time when MI were relaxing in the dressing room, GT were looking fierce when the opportunity came in. The weather was just enough to allow one over of the match in order to conclude the winning team. GT needed 15 runs in 6 balls, and there were only four fielders in the inner circle because of slow over rate.

Hardik Pandya accepted that his team was 20-30 runs short of putting out a strong total, but praised the bowlers for their brilliant display.

We fought well with the total we had. Most of the time, we were out of the game, but we pushed as a group. It was a game of margins,” he said.

It was definitely not a 150-wicket. It was a 175-wicket, we were short in batting by 20-25 or maybe 30 runs if we had batted well. Credit to the bowlers. They kept fighting, and we could not finish the job,” he added.

The whole match wet with intervals as clouds and rain were constantly interrupting. Hardik Pandya stated that even though the constant stops were not ideal, they had to go with the game.

The ground, in the first innings, was not wet, but post that, throughout, the ball kept getting wetter. Not sure if it helped us or not, it was difficult. Rain kept coming in, not ideal to have stoppages and start again. But the game goes on, we had to play a game (in the end), and we definitely did,” he concluded.

Speaking about the match, Gujarat Titans defeated Mumbai Indians by three wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in a dramatic Indian Premier League match here on Tuesday.
