Madhya Pradesh crushed Mumbai by 10 wickets with more than a day to spare in the Under-22 C K Nayudu Trophy quarterfinals at the Brabourne Stadium on Friday.

Tottering at 86 for 5 in the second innings and needing 123 runs more to avoid an innings defeat, Mumbai avoided the ignominy by making 260, but it was not enough to escape a huge defeat and elimination from the tournament.

Sidesh Lad made a fighting 93 off 135 balls with 18 fours and also added 35 runs for the seventh wicket with Pratik Manjrekar, who made 55 with 9 fours and a six, to help Mumbai inch closer to saving the innings defeat.

After Lad’s fall at 170, Manjrekar helped Mumbai force their rivals to bat again with a stand of 43 with S C Gorivale, who made a plucky 25 in 95 balls.

MP medium pacers N R Nawke (4 for 68), who finished with a match haul of six wickets, and left-arm A P Singh (5 for 84), who had picked up two wickets in the first innings, were the wreckers-in-chief.

MP, who made it to the semis, made 54 without loss to easily achieve the target of 52 set by the home team. (PTI)
