India’s limited-overs skipper MS Dhoni’s comeback to domestic cricket wasn’t quite a fruitful one as he was dismissed for 9 runs in the Jharkhand vs Jammu and Kashmir match in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2015-16. Dhoni’s decision of playing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2015-16 earned him many applauds and has made news all around. He also decided not to captain the side and let young Varun Aaron a chance to prove his potentials as leader and play under him, which also was appreciated. With a heavy-weight like him in their side, the Jharkhand boys must have been pumped up with confidence but the performance put up by Dhoni is sure to play a dampener. On Thursday, in their first match in the series, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) won the toss and skipper Mithun Manhas elected to field. Rohit Sharma helped J&K get an early breakthrough by removing opener Ankit Dabas within 6 overs. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals but the other opener Ishank Jaggi remained at the crease and made a crucial 72-ball 54, till Parvez Rasool dismissed him. The next man in was Dhoni himself, on whom the hopes were high but he underperformed, scoring only 9 runs from the 24 deliveries he faced before Waseem Raza bagged his wicket.
MS Dhoni last played domestic cricket for India in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match for Jharkhand against Tripura in the year 2007. The T20 match saw a stupendous innings by Dhoni as he scored an unbeaten 73 off 42 balls with the help of 3 fours and 7 sixes that lead Jharkhand to a 34-runs-victory.
