Mumbai are leading by 299 runs at stumps on day three of Irani Cup 2015-16 match against Rest of India. They were two runs for the loss of one wicket (in their second innings) when the umpire called the end of third day’s play. Rest of India had resumed their innings from their overnight  score of 36 for 1.  When they added just 19 more runs, Faiz Fazal departed for 28. Sudip Chatterjee replaced him. He started off slowly as he had just scored a singe run in the first 17 balls he faced. After getting settled, he started playing a few scoring shots and was soon batting on 13 off 36 balls. Jayant Yadav was the next to go. He was taken aback by the bounce generated by Abhishek Nayar’s delivery. His defence could not keep the ball down, instead a thick outside edge off his bat gave an easy catch at gully to Jay Gokul Bista. After Jayant’s wicket, Naman Ojha came to the middle. Iqbal Abdulla was then brought into the attack. The decision paid off as he provided Mumbai with two quick wickets. BLOG: Mumbai vs Rest of India, Irani Trophy 2015-16, Day 3 at Brabourne Stadium

Chatterjee was his first victim. Abdulla bowled a flighted ball and the batsman tried to play a drive but ended up giving an easy catch to the bowler. Abdulla then bowled a similar ball to Ojha, who advanced down the pitch but the bowler changed his length a little. Ojha still went with the drive. Siddhesh Lad at short extra cover took a good diving catch off his second attempt. Mumbai were 128 for the loss of five wickets at lunch and were trailing by 475 runs. Rest of India came back with an attacking approach after the lunch break. Sheldon Jackson hit Abdulla for a six and two fours off three consecutive deliveries. Next over, Karun Nair struck a four off Shardul Thakur’s bowling. He hit a boundary again off the penultimate ball of the over. Jackson was then cleaned up by Jay Gokul Bista for 37. Karun Nair kept on batting with grit and discipline. He completed his fifty off 121 balls hitting seven boundaries. Nair went on to score 94 and Jaydev Unadkat gave him good support with his 48-run knock. Rest of India were bowled out for 306.
