Nepal physio sacked following sex assault charges

Ashai, an Indian citizen, was granted bail after appearing in court in Northern Ireland.

Kathmandu: Nepal‘s cricket board has fired the team’s physiotherapist following his arrest in Northern Ireland over allegations of sexual assault during the ongoing World T20 qualifying tournament, an official said Friday.

Police arrested Aijaz Bashir Ashai after a masseuse accused the 42-year-old of molesting her in Belfast on Tuesday, said Uttam Karmacharya, general secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal. Indian physio fired by Cricket Association of Nepal on charges of sexual assault

“We hired him in India last month to work with the team during the qualifying stages of the Twenty20 World Cup,” Karmacharya said.

Ashai, an Indian citizen, was granted bail after appearing in court in Northern Ireland earlier this week but faces a court hearing next month, according to the Nepalese board and reports from Belfast. Najam Sethi is hopeful about India-Pakistan series
