In the crucial Group 1 encounter of ICC World T20 2014 played between Netherlands and New Zealand at Chittagong, New Zealand made a steady start against Netherlands, while chasing a target of 152. It has to be said that on a good track, New Zealand can up the ante when needed. For Netherlands, Timm Van de Gugten used his shoulder to generate a bit of pace and hit the bat hard. Martin Guptill, the New Zealand opener finally got out to Gugten’s bowling. He is certainly quicker than what he seems to be. Williamson though, is playing  a steady hand for them.

Earlier, an excellent partnership between captain Peter Borren and Tom Cooper took Netherlands to 151 for the loss of four wickets.  Both of them played innovative shots that left Kiwi bowlers clueless. New Zealand made the error by bowling length stuff. Both batsmen just used their power to thwack sixes.

Tom Cooper in particular, took some heavy toll of some poor bowling. The straight six he smashed off Kyle Mills’s bowling was perhaps the shot of the innings. New Zealand made a mistake by using Mills at the back end of the innings.  His partner and captain of the team, Borren finally got out for a well-measured innings of 49. It has to go down as one of his innings he has played in his career. Once Borren was out, Ben Cooper, Tom’s brother played a smart innings by rotating the strike.
