Netherlands vs South Africa ICC World T20 2014: Netherlands fightback with quick wickets

Netherlands fought back to reduce South Africa to 114 for five after 15 overs.

Netherlands fought back to reduce South Africa to 114 for five after 15 overs, in their ICC World T20 2014 Group 1 match at Chittagong on Thursday. South Africa lost the key wickets of AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis and the explosive Albie Morkel in quick succession, which pegged them back.

 

This was after  South Africa were 92 for three after 10 overs against the Netherlands .

 

AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis added 39 runs for the third wicket to revive South Africa after they lost Hashim Amla in the fifth over. Du Plessis struck three boundaries and a six to score 24 off 14 balls, before he was caught in the deep midwicket off Tom Cooper.

 

South Africa were 92 for three halfway through, with de Villiers batting on 21 and Albie Morkel on one not out.

 

This was after Hashim Amla provided a rollicking start to South Africa, who reached 46 for two after five overs. Amla looked in rich form as he scored 43 off just 22 balls with the help of seven boundaries and a six. He was caught by wicketkeeper Wesley Barresi off Ahsan Malik in the fifth over.

 

The senior batsman provided South Africa some much-needed momentum when he smashed a six and three four boundaries to collect as many as 23 runs off Swart in the third over of the game.

 

South Africa suffered an early blow in form of Quinton de Kock, who was caught by Stephan Myburgh off Michael Swart. De Kock went for a slog on the fifth ball of the over, but was caught at the square leg fielder who was standing close.
