New Zealand’s emerging women cricketers can look forward to a Trans-Tasman battle next March, with a four-game limited-overs series scheduled against Australia Under-19s at Lincoln. The Emerging Players came together at training camps for the first time this winter and Head of High Performance Bryan Stronach said the upcoming series was a continuation of NZC’s commitment to developing more pathways for the next tier of elite female cricketers.

“We see this as a great opportunity to give these players a platform to challenge themselves in meaningful competition against quality opposition,” Stronach said. “This four-match series should provide them with valuable experience in pressure situations and we will continue to look for ways to incorporate these kinds of events into the cricketing calendar.”

There will be plenty of motivation for the players to finish the domestic season well, with the New Zealand squad to be named following the completion of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, on the eve of the international series.

The Emerging Players took on the West Indies in a 50-over warm-up match ahead of last season’s home summer and came away with a five-wicket win at Lincoln.
