Offspinner William Somerville and fast bowler Seth Rance have been added to New Zealand’s squad which will square off against Australia in three one-day internationals starting in Brisbane next week.
Somerville, 34, has played one Test for New Zealand but is yet to make his ODI debut, whereas Rance, the fast bowler, has featured in two ODIs to go with five T20Is.The offspinner played the third Test for New Zealand against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi last year, which the Blackcaps won 2-1 to capture the series. He had picked up seven wickets in that game
Rance, 31, on the other hand has eight international wickets since his ODI debut against Ireland in May 2017. He is coming off a reasonable series for the Northern Districts, claiming 12 wickets in four First-Class games. The 15-member squad is being captained by Tom Latham and mostly resembles a second-string side since most of New Zealand’s players are playing the IPL in India
Among those who aren’t is Ross Taylor, currently playing county cricket for Middlesex. Matt Henry, Jimmy Neesham and Henry Nicolls are the other familiar names in the squad with the likes of Tom Blundell, Todd Astle, Hamish Bennett comprising the rest.
