The opener Martin Guptill has surpassed Chris Cairns to sit behind only Brendon McCullum in the list of most sixes in ODIs for New Zealand.
In his 157th innings, Guptill hit his 152nd six to move past former allrounder Cairns who hit 151 in 192 ODI innings for the Blackcaps. This milestone came in the same match in which the 32-year-old became the fifth New Zealand batsman to reach 6,000 runs in ODIs.
Shortly after reaching his 14th ODI hundred, Guptill smashed the legspin of Seekkuge Prasanna over midwicket for six to equal Cairns. Not long after, he went past Cairns with his 152nd six, a bent-knee swat over long-off off Lakshan Sandakan. (LIVE SCORECARD: NEW ZEALAND vs SRI LANKA)
