Australia’s Twenty20 International captain Aaron Finch was critical of his side’s performance during a dismal 66-run defeat against Pakistan in the first T20I Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Set a 156-run target, Australia lost their first six wickets for just 22 runs with Finch dismissed for a three-ball duck. “That Powerplay was horrific…it was like a car crash in slow motion,” Finch said.

“Opening the batting, it’s my responsibility to get us off to a good start and set up the chase there. I take full responsibility for that. I think any time that you’re chasing a total like that it’s important you have a solid start and for me to get out in the first over and not give us that was not good enough,” he said.

Finch dropped a hint that Australia could make a few changes for the second game in Dubai by introducing allrounder Mitchell Marsh into the equation. Nathan Lyon, who was phenomenal in the preceding two-match Test series which Pakistan won 1-0, Mitchell Starc, currently nursing a hamstring issue and Peter Siddle missed out on the games. “Absolutely, they’ll be looking at changes,” he said.

Finch was happy with his bowlers who restricted Pakistan to 155/8. Pacers Bill Stanlake and Andrew Tye claimed three wicket each.

“I think all in all, our bowling performance was pretty good. Our fielding was slightly sloppy, then the batting was awful. Definitely, when that happens, when you lose a game so badly, you have to look at everything,” he said.
