Pakistan crumble to a 119-run loss against New Zealand in the second ODI at Napier
New Zealand crush Pakistan by 119 runs
New Zealand have thumped Pakistan by 119 runs in the second One-Day International (ODI) at Napier. Mohammad Hafeez top scored for Pakistan with 86 and along with Ahmed Shehzad (55) he put on 111 runs for the opening wicket. Other Pakistan batsmen did not offer much resistance as they were bowled out in 43.1 overs. The likes of Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal fell in quick succession after Hafeez’s dismissal, which dented Pakistan’s hopes of winning the game even more after a good start at the top.
Centuries from Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor had propelled New Zealand to 369 for five in 50 overs. Taylor scored the 100th century for New Zealand in ODIs off the last ball of the New Zealand innings as he remained unbeaten on 102. Tim Southee, Adam Milne, Nathan McCullum and Grant Elliot picked up two wickets apiece to ensure that Pakistan did nit have a chance in the game. Mohammad Irfan was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan with figures of two for 52.
Earlier New Zealand had won the toss and elected to bat first. New Zealand got back Williamson, Tim Southee and Daniel Vettori back in the their side and Pakistan have changed an unchanged side from the first ODI at Wellington. New Zealand had won the first ODI at Wellington by seven wickets. This is the last match either team will play ahead of ICC World Cup 2015, which starts on February 14.
