Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman hurt his back while fielding in the first match of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy against New Zealand. On the third delivery of the first over, Will Young played a drive to Shaheen Afridi which ended up beating the infield and racing towards the boundary rope.

Fakhar eventually stopped the ball from crossing the boundary and threw it to Babar Azam. However as soon as he saved the boundary, Fakhar started complaining about pain in his back.

He wasn’t able to field in the next over and was soon taken back to the dressing room by the physio. Threr has been no update about his fitness since then.

This can turn out to be a massive blow for Pakistan as Fakhar is one of their most important batters. The Men in Green are already without batting sensation Saim Ayub, who was ruled out of the Champions Trophy after suffering an ankle injury last month.

If they do end up losing Fakhar as well due to injury, then their batting unit will take a massive hit and the selectors will have to come up with a suitable replacement for the left-hander.

Pakistan will be hoping that Fakhar’s condition isn’t anything serious so that he will be able to recover quickly and bat without any problems.
