Pakistan’s Punjab assembly urges United Nations to declare Shiv Sena a ‘terrorist organisation’

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Punjab provincial assembly on Monday condemned a protest by Shiv Sena at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters in Mumbai and demanded that the United Nations (UN) declare the party a “terrorist organisation.” In a resolution adopted by the House, the assembly condemned the protests by Shiva Sena activists at events related to Pakistan, including today’s protest at the BCCI headquarters over a meet of Indian and Pakistani cricket board chiefs to revive the India-Pakistan cricketing ties. The resolution said that the activities of Shiv Sena have put at risk the safety of Muslims and followers of other religions in India. “Peace in the region is in danger because of Shiv Sena, states the resolution,” it said. Earlier on Monday, more than a hundred Shiv Sena workers broke into the BCCI office in Mumbai, just before its chief Shashank Manohar was to meet with his Pakistani counterpart Shahryar Khan. The Shiv Sainiks — who are the party members — were taken away by the police after a brief period during which they shouted slogans against the cricket relations between the two cricketing powerhouses. BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur on Monday but virtually ruled out the possibility of an early resumption of Indo-Pak bilateral cricket series even as he strongly condemned the Shiv Sena protests inside the Board headquarters in Mumbai.
