Parthiv Patel and Ambati Rayudu shared a 137-run partnership to boost Mumbai Indians (MI) to a commanding total of 189 for 6 against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Match 21 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 at Mohali. Skipper Rohit Sharma was out caught behind for a 2-ball duck by Nikhil Naik off Sandeep Sharma, but Parthiv and Rayudu combined to put on 137 in just over 14 overs to rescue MI. Rayudu was out for a 37-ball 65 which included 4 fours and 4 sixes. Having hit Akshar Patel for 2 back-to-back sixes in the 15th over, Rayudu holed out going for the third. He was caught well by Manan Vohra at cow corner. Live Cricket Scorecard: Kings XI Punjab vs Mumbai Indians, IPL 2016 Match 21 at Mohali

The partnership between Parthiv and Rayudu was a game-changing one. Parthiv took a shine to Mitchell Johnson, hitting him for 6 boundaries in the bowler’s first 3 overs. Parthiv should also have been dismissed, though; in Johnson’s second over Parthiv pulled one straight to deep midwicket but the umpires asked him to hang around to check for the no-ball. It turned out Johnson had indeed overstepped, so Parthiv survived, and promptly hit a couple of boundaries to celebrate. However, Johnson had the last laugh when Parthiv tried to go for an upper cut only to offer a catch to Shaun Marsh. Parthiv was dismissed for 81 off 58 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes. Live Cricket Updates: Kings XI Punjab vs Mumbai Indians, IPL 2016 Match 21 at Mohali

Jos Buttler came in to bat at No. 4 and promptly hit Pardeep Sahu for a big six. He ended up hitting 3 boundaries as well before being bowled by a slower ball from Mohit Sharma. He was dismissed for 24 from 13 balls. Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya managed to hit a few boundaries late in the innings to help MI close in on 190, but both men were dismissed off the final 2 balls of the innings. Sandeep was the pick of the KXIP bowling, sending down 4 overs for just 20 runs and taking one big wicket, while Mohit finished with 3 wickets. However, aside from them every other bowler went for more than 10 runs per over.

Brief scores:

Mumbai Indians 189 for 6 in 20 overs (Parthiv Patel 81, Ambati Rayudu 65; Sandeep Sharma 1 for 20, Mohit Sharma 3 for 38) vs Kings XI Punjab.
