Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar on Wednesday clarified that he did not used the word “u-turn” and was only “baffled by the turn of events” as far as his IPL contract row with the BCCI was concerned.
“The word ‘u-turn’ has been making headlines in many media. I wish to state clearly that these specific words were never uttered by me. All that I said was that ‘I was baffled by the turn of events’,” he said a day after lashing out at the BCCI.
The former India opener also sought to clarify that Arun Jaitley’s role was restricted to only receiving the confirmation from former BCCI president Sharad Pawar that he had indeed been made a renewed offer to come on board the IPL.
“I have also not said that Mr. Pawar and Mr. Jaitley both promised me that my dues will be cleared. This is completely untrue. Mr. Jaitley in fact was only the receiver of the confirmation from Mr. Pawar that I had indeed been made a renewed offer and he in turn conveyed that to the Working Committee. Beyond that Mr. Jaitley has had no role to play in the episode,” Gavaskar said in a statement.
“I haven’t as yet heard anything from the BCCI about the decision that was taken by the Working Committee and therefore I am not in a position to say anything further on the matter which is exactly what I said on the show (on NDTV) too.”
Gavaskar on Tuesday lashed out at the BCCI after his demand of USD 1 million (Rs 5 crore) per season for media and governing council related activities involving the IPL was turned down by the board’s working committee. (PTI)
