Left red-faced by the spot-fixing scandal that led to jail terms for its three top players, the Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to set up a vigilance division to “keep a very strict eye” on corruption.
The division is being established by new PCB chief Zaka Ashraf.
“We are going to keep a very strict eye and bring in very strict discipline so that my players, wherever they are, don’t get in touch with people who try to drag them into such negative business,” Ashraf was quoted as saying by The Daily Telegraph.
“We want to discourage that, we want to eliminate that.
We have to be a respectable board, we have to work with the English Cricket Board, with the rest of the world and we have to move forward,” he said.
The move comes after former captain Salman Butt and pacers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were jailed for fixing parts of a Test match against England last year after taking money from a bookmaker Mazhar Majeed.
