The Perth Scorchers have started off well in the second semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), scoring 36 for the loss of one wicket in the first six overs. In the second semi-final of the Big Bash League 2014, Marcus North, captain of the Sydney Sixers won the toss and decided to field first against the Perth Scorchers.

Scorchers captain, Simon Katich opened the batting alongside Criag Simmons, and both openers started off cautiously, scoring just 12 off the first three overs. Then Katich blasted Mitchell Starc for 19 in the fourth over, where he hit three fours and a six over fine-leg to up the scoring rate.

But he went for one too many in the fifth over against Josh Hazlewood, and holed out to Brett Lee in the thirdman region.
