The new Twenty20 Big Bash League (BBL) champions Perth Scorchers were penalised for maintaining a slow over rate in the final against the Hobart Hurricanes in Perth on Friday.
“After time allowances were taken into consideration, the Scorchers were assessed to be one over behind the required rate at the end of the match. Under the BBL playing conditions, each member of the Scorchers playing XI is fined $500. If the Scorchers accept this penalty without appeal, the fine will be reduced to $250,” said a statement.

As it was the second Scorchers’ slow over rate penalty for the season, captain Simon Katich also receives a one-match suspension. Katich will, therefore, be unavailable for his team’s opening match in the next season of BBL.
