Police officials arrested a person on Thursday who entered S Sreesanth’s house at Edappally in Kochi, introducing himself as a police official from Mumbai.
The impersonator, who is 32-years-old, is a native of Pune. Police have identified him as Neelesh Ramachandra Jagtap alias Sachin.
“Neelesh arrived in Kochi on Thursday morning and reached Sreesanth’s house in Edappally. He informed the guard at the gate that he is a police official from Mumbai and wanted to interrogate Sreesanth’s parents over the issue of IPL spot-fixing,” Bijo Alexander, Assistant Commissioner of Police of Kalamassery, was quoted as saying by www.newindianexpress.com
“On this, the guard allowed him to enter the house. He met the mother of Sreesanth and told her that he is from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and can help them bring Sreesanth out of the scandal. On being suspicious of his intentions, Sreesanth’s parents informed Kalamassery police who arrested him from the house,” said Bijo Alexander.
Jagtap told the police that he was formerly a leader with the Nationalist Congress Party and is very close to Sharad Pawar, Union Minister and former President of International Cricket Council (ICC).
However, police refused to believe him.
“We have registered a case against him for impersonation and will produce him before the Aluva Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Friday. We will ask for his custody and investigate whether he is of any bookie gang,” said the Assistant Commissioner.
