Former Indian skipper, Rahul Dravid, spoke about his terms with VVS Laxman and what they used to talk about while fielding in the slips for the team. Leading the team to memorable wins, both at home and abroad, the two cricketers have been rock solid for the team during their playing days and continue to share a great relation off the field as well. He shared an insight into what type of conversations he used to have the Laxman before the bowler used to get ready for the next ball. They were India’s best bet in the slips and took many catches in that area. ALSO READ: Rahul Dravid in awe of Dipa Karmakar’s Rio Olympics achievement
In an exclusive chat with Vikram Sathey on the show, What The Duck, he stated, “You can’t always discuss cricket and you need to talk about different things. We’d happen to be constructing house at the same time, at that stage. And, so yeah, some of the conversations were really interesting. You know having issues with the plumbing. The electrician, which kind of electrician are you using, what kind of switches do you think we should use.” They did this to keep themselves not so fully engrossed in the game and keep the atmosphere a little light. He also added that they used to switch on quickly when the bowler used to start his run up.
Apart from all such conversations, Dravid took a total of 210 catches at the slips while Laxman took 135 of them in an area where ball comes to the fielder quickly with less time to react. ALSO READ: VVS Laxman: Slip fielders should concentrate more in order to raise their fielding standards
Dravid also had a batting average of 52.31 and 39.61 in Tests and One-Day Internationals (ODIs), respectively, whereas Laxman excelled more in the longer format with an average of 45.97 and ODI average at 30.76.
