Rajeev Shukla appointed Chairman of IPL Governing Council; Sourav Ganguly, Ravi Shastri also named

Rajeev Shukla had resigned following IPL spot-fixing controversy.

Mumbai: Rajeev Shukla was appointed the new chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council on Monday, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) release said. Shukla resigned from the post of IPL chairman in June, 2013, following a scandal over corruption and spot-fixing in the tournament. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly and current team director Ravi Shastri were also named in the governing council. IPL 2015 is set to begin from April 8 and the first match of the tournament will be played between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Shukla will be under tremendous pressure to make sure that spot-fixing or any other sort of fixing does not take place again. Controversy had marred the IPL 2013 during a match involving Rajasthan Royals (RR).
