Sibasankar Roy (72) and Gokul Sharma (54) struck half-centuries while other batsmen also made useful contributions as Assam reached 248 for four against Hyderabad on day one of their Ranji Trophy Group C cricket match, here today.

It was a decent if not great start by Assam after electing to bat as openers — PP Das (40) and AB Arun Karthik (24) — put on 56 runs for the first wicket.

Roy and Sharma then joined hands to raise a 112-run stand for the third wicket to steady the innings.

At the end of the day, skipper Dheeraj Jadhav (21) and Tarjinder Singh (25) were at the crease when stumps were drawn for the day.
