Govinda Poddar and Anurag Sarangi remained unbeaten as Odisha defeated Assam by eight wickets in the third round of ongoing Ranji trophy 2015-16, taking six crucial points. Govinda scored a calculated 77 runs from 77 deliveries, Anurag supported him with his 101-ball 29. Meanwhile, Pritam Das and Arup Das were the wicket-takers for Assam, but their bowlers who were successful in their previous game failed miserably in this match. Chasing 141 in the fourth innings, the hosts needed 35 overs to seal the match after bowling out Gokul Sharma’s side for 137 in their second innings with Syed Mohammed being their top scorer for his 42 from 116 deliveries. Cricket score, Odisha vs Assam, Ranji Trophy 2015-16, Group A match, Day 3 at Cuttack: Odisha won by 8 wickets

Suryakant Pradhan’s five-wicket haul in the second innings derailed the Assam’s top-order as their three batsmen— Kunal Saikia, Gokul Sharma and Amit Verma— went for a duck and in 75.3 overs, the visitors managed just 137 runs which gave them a lead of 141 runs and Odisha were left with two and half days to chase it down.

After a brilliant opening game against defending champions Karnataka, where Assam had successfully taken the first innings lead and that was followed by a superb victory by an innings and 152 runs over Rajasthan, this game undoubtedly was a disappointment for the young squad. Meanwhile, Odisha who had picked just two points from their previous matches bounced back in style. Even after getting bundled up for mere 88 runs in the first innings against Assam, they managed to deny a huge lead for the visitors.
