Pankaj Singh’s 5-for crumbled Assam to 195 against Rajasthan in the Round 2 of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. It was Rishav Das who scored 93 off 221 balls which helped Assam to at least reach the verge of 200 runs. Assam opener Pallavkumar Das scored useful 40 off 116 balls initially to kick start their innings, but except for these two batsmen, none other from their team could even get into their 20’s. Pankaj Singh rattled through the team of Assam as he collected five wickets to bundle out their opposition. Singh finished with the figures of 21.3-8-39-5. Nathu Singh was the other successful bowler for Rajasthan as he scalped two wickets while giving 40 runs.

Assam had one of the disastrous day as eight batsmen from their team could not even get runs in double digit. Out of these eight, they also had two batsmen who could not even open their accounts. Barring Rishav Das and Pallavkumar Das, Jamaluddin Syed Mohammad was the only batter who scored 15 runs. Assam never looked like taking off as they lost wickets at regular interval. It remains to be seen how Rajasthan come out and bat on the Second Day which will be very crucial with the way this Test is panning out.
