Chhattisgarh were trailing by 28 runs in the first innings of their Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Group C match against Kerala at stumps on the second day. Chhattisgarh were precariously placed at 179 for 9 in their first innings, in reply to Kerala’s 207 in the first innings. Sumit Ruikar was batting on 21 off 47 balls, having struck 2 boundaries while Pankaj Rao was yet to open his account after facing three balls. For Chhattisgarh, their captain Abhimanyu Chauhan top scored for 37 off 117 balls with just 3 boundaries. Amandeep Khare scored 35 off 80 balls, with 4 boundaries in his innings.
This match is certainly turning out into a low-scoring thriller between these two teams, being played out at the Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur. The Chhattisgarh batsmen got starts but failed to convert them into big scores, as Rishabh Tiwari was dismissed for 62-ball 20 with 4 boundaries, Ashutosh Singh scored just 18 runs off 96 balls without any boundary. Their wicketkeeper-batsman Manoj Singh faced 46 balls and struck 3 boundaries to score 20 runs. Monish Karaparambil was the pick among the bowlers for Kerala as he returned with the figures of 18-5-34-3. On the other hand, Iqbal Abdullah bowled as many as 24 overs, which had 10 maiden, 3 wickets and mere 26 runs given away.
Earlier in the first innings, Kerala were bowled out for a paltry 207 with their captain Rohan Prem top-scoring with 62, Bhavin Thakkar getting 33, and their talented wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson scoring 41 off 37 balls.
Brief scores:
Kerala 207 (Bhavin Thakkar 33, Rohan Prem 62, Sanju Samson 41; Sumi Ruikar 5 for 50) lead Chhattisgarh 179 for 9 (Amandeep Khare 35, Abhimanyu Chauhan 37; Monish Karaparambil 3 for 34, Iqbal Abdullah 3 for 26) by 28 runs.
