In what turned out to be a one-sided competition, Rajasthan won their Round 2 match against Assam by an innings and eight runs on the day three of the Round 2 of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17. Mahipal Lomror of Rajasthan was adjudged Man of the Match for his excellent batting in the first innings wherein scored 89 runs of 242 deliveries which included 11 boundaries which enabled Rajasthan to put a decent total of 272 in the first innings. Rajasthan initially won the toss and opted to bat first and this decision was well backed by their blowers as they bundled up the side of Assam for just 195 wherein Rishav Das played a lone warrior’s knock of 93 wherein Rajasthan bowler Pankaj Singh took 5 for 39.

Rajasthan had kind of a similar start to their first innings as their batsmen could not capitalise on the start that they got off to in their individual innings. But it was Lomror who displayed some gritty batting as he was the standout performer for his team and also the only batsmen to get beyond the 50 runs mark. The second best score for Rajasthan was by Ashok Maneria who scored 44. Arup Das remained the pick of the bowler for Assam as he picked up 4 wickets and finished with the figures of 26-8-53-4. When Assam came out to bat in their second innings they first had to surpass the deficit of 77 runs that Rajasthan had pulled over them. But Assam again got off to a disastrous start as none of their batsmen could score runs at all. Aniket Choudhary and Pankaj Singh destroyed the Assam batting order as they got 5 and 4 wickets respectively. Choudhary finished with the figures of 10-3-35-5 while Pankaj Singh finished with the figures of 10.2-4-26-4 taking his total tally of wickets to 9 in this match.

For Assam total five batsmen could not open their account as they were dismissed for a duck, while the highest score for Assam come once again from Rishav Das who scored 16 from 43 balls as Assam eventually were done and dusted for a puny score of 69.
