Railways were easy victors of Baroda in the Round 6, Ranji Trophy 2016-17 tie. Both teams were playing at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground in Nagpur which saw witness to a well contest match. Set a target of 113 runs to win, Railways got to their mark in 33-odd over with Shivakant Shukla remaining not out on 56* along with Ashish Yadav not-out on 0. The only bright light for Baroda was bowler Swapnil K Singh’s show with the ball in the second innings picking up 3-wickets 23 runs. Railways batsmen Saurabh and Shukla had a good 77 run stand for the 1st wicket. Saurabh knock came to an halting end when Swapnil Singh got him caught up Hooda for a 80-ball 45. Baroda resumed Day Three, with their score at 27 for no loss. They were eventually bowled out for 239. However, in the first innings, Baroda put on a very low total on the board and were playing catch up throughout the match. Opener Kedar Devdhar scored 45 and Dhiren Mistry scored 50 to take Baroda to 183. Left-arm spinner Avinash Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for Railways, finishing with five wickets, to go with his three wickets in the second innings. Railways scored 310 in their first innings, taking a 127-run lead. Baroda failed to stitch any big partnership in their second innings and as a result, could not post a big target for Railways to chase down.
