In Round 6 of Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Day Four, Bengal drew their encounter with Tamil Nadu but could not prevent their opponents from taking three vital points. Winning the toss, Bengal chose to bat and piled up 337 in their first outing. Tamil Nadu, however, took the vital lead which ensured that even if they match would not have produced any result, they would have gained three points courtesy a first-innings-lead. The match ended with Bengal reeling at 196 for 9 in 77 overs with the lead standing at 179. The scoreboard gives a clear picture that Bengal were on the mat against Tamil Nadu ever since they took the field. Bengal did not fare poorly in the first innings with a modest score of 337, courtesy a century from Sandip Chatterjee an twin fifties from Agniv Pan and skipper, Manoj Tiwary. Tamil Nadu piled up 354 and thereby ended up taking a slender lead of 17 runs.

The entire Tamil Nadu line-up chipped in with vital scores with fifties from Kaushik Gandhi and Dinesh Karthik. Abhinav Mukund got to a start before he departed for 45. Tamil Nadu’s dominance did not end here as they dismissed nine Bengal batsmen before the match ended in a draw. Shreevats Goswami was the only performer for Bengal as Washington Sundar took three scalps while Aswin Crist and Aushik Srinivas grabbed two wickets apiece.
