Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Round 8, Day 3 match report: Shadab Jakati’s heroics hand Goa victory over Andhra

Goa emerged as the winning side on Day  Three of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Round 8 match against Andhra at at the Railway Stadium, Dhanbad. The third day of this match began with Andhra  needing 134 more to win against Goa with seven wickets in hand. Ricky Bhui top scored from Andhra’s side with his 71-run knock, which included three boundaries and three sixes. Andhra resumed their batting on Day Three with Dwaraka Ravi Teja and Bhui at crease. Both added 24 more run to their fourth-wicket partnership. Teja missed his half-century by one run as he was clean bowled by spinner Shadab Jakati.

After that, Andhra started losing their grip from the match as the collapse had begun. Bhui stood for some time at the crease but he too walked back to pavilion after scoring 71. Apart from Bhargav Bhatt, no other batsman could touch even 10-run mark after Teja and Bhui’s departure. Soon, Andhra were bundled out for 198 and Goa registered their second win of the tournament. The main architect of this collapse was Rituraj Singh, who scalped four wickets on Day Three. Jakati and Amulaya Pandrekar ended the game with three wickets each in the final innings of the match. Darshan Misal and Saurabh Bandekar remained wicketless in the final innings.

Earlier, Goa were bowled out for 115 and Andhra took the lead of 44 runs by scoring 159 in the first innings. In the second innings, Goa bounced back by posting 276 and set the tricky target of 234  for Andhra, which they failed to chase.Player of the match award was given to spinner Jakati, for taking 11 wickets in this contest. Despite the loss, Andhra  are still at the top of their Group C points table and same with Goa, as they are still at the fifth spot.
