In Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Round 9, Hyderabad ended the first day in command versus Andhra,  in the Group C clash. Winning the toss, Hyderabad asked Andhra to bat and dominated ever since. Andhra were bowled out for an embarrassing total of 190, succumbing to Chama Milind and Ravi Kiran’s bowling. The duo shared nine wickets between them to put Andhra on the mat. Had it not been to Mudi Prajith and Ashwin Hebbar’s fifties, Andhra would have slipped to less than 150. There were three ducks from Andhra’s side which resulted in them getting bowled out for a paltry score.

The first wicket fell early with the score at 4. Srikar Bharat was the first to fall for 3 as Ravi started their downfall. Prasanth Kumar and Hanuma Vihari added 47 for the second wicket and looked set to take the side out of troubled waters before Vihari departed for 17. Prasanth got a start but perished for 27 falling prey to Akash Bhandari. Andhra had lost half the side for only 80 on board and looked set for further embarrassment. Nonetheless, a timely and well composed 91-run stand between Prajith and Hebbar saw them come close to 200. Prajit scored 63 off 88 balls with 11 boundaries whereas Hebbar smacked 2 sixes and 6 fours to score 52 off 63 balls.

Hyderabad’s bowlers were on target with Ravi and Milind striking at regular intervals. They never allowed Andhra to settle in and ensured wickets tumbled whenever they were given the red cherry by their skipper. After eventually bundling out Andhra for 190 in 59 overs, Hyderabad ended day’s proceedings at 10 for no loss with openers Tanmay Agarwal and Akshath Reddy keeping their wickets intact. The platform has been laid out by their bowlers and Hyderabad will now look up to their batters to get them to a healthy score and take an effective lead.
