Jammu and Kashmir were struggling at 205 for 6 at stumps on the first day of their Ranji Trophy 2016-17 against Andhra on Thursday. The Group C match of India’s premier domestic cricket competition is being played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. At stumps, Bandeep Singh was batting on 14 not out and Puneet Bisht was on 12 not out as Jammu and Kashmir were in need of some rescue after their middle-order produced an ordinary show. For Andhra, three of their bowlers — Paidikalva Vijaykumar, Duvvarupu Sivakumar and Bhargav Bhatt claimed two wickets each. It was Andhra who chose to field after winning the toss, and ensured with some good show on the field that the day belonged to them. However, it was not before some solid batting by Jammu and Kashmir opener Swapnil Khajuria, who scored 90 off 238 balls with 9 boundaries and 2 sixes. His was the only innings apart from the some resistance in the middle order by Parvez Rasool — who scored 45 — as the other batsmen flopped on the first day wicket at the Brabourne Stadium. Rasool faced 114 balls and struck 4 boundaries, and continued his good show after winning Jammu and Kashmir their previous match in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2016-17 all by himself. Paidikalva Vijaykumar, Duvvarupu returned with the figures of 25-11-40-2, Duvvarupu Sivakumar had the figures of 16-6-32-2 and Bhargav Bhatt bowled as many as 33 overs, in which he bagged 2 for 71 with 11 maiden.
