Saurashtra have Arpit Vasavada to thank after the table-toppers ended their opening Round 4 Elite A Ranji Trophy 2018-19 match against Baroda at 266/6 on Wednesday.

Opting to bat, Saurashtra were off to a disastrous start with openers – Harvik Desai and Snell Patel – back in the hut for nought. Desai was the first to in the last ball of the first over after he edged it behind to wicketkeeper Pinal Shah to hand Rishi Arothe his first wicket. Patel was caught by Vishnu Solanki off Atit Sheth.

Sheldon Jackson added just 16 as Sheth picked his second wicket to send the dangerous batsman back.

Vasavada and Prerak Mankad then engaged in damage control as the duo stitched 167 runs for the fourth wicket. Mankad brought up his sixth first-class fifty and departed for 85 after he was run out by Solanki.

Vasavada meanwhile, batted to reach his fourth Ranji century, but his fine 120 off 230 was ended by Arothe. Vasavada clobbered 15 boundaries during his knock. At stumps, captain Jaydev Shah and Dharmendrasinh were unbeaten on 22 and 10 respectively.
