Kerala made a spirited comeback giving Madhya Pradesh a tough fight but it wasn’t enough. They were bowled out for 455 on the final day of their Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite B, round 4 match at the St Xavier’s College Ground setting 191 runs to win for the visitors.

MP overhauled the required target with Rajat Patidar scoring 77. They made 194/5 in 62 overs to win by five wickets – their first of the ongoing season.

Earlier in the day, Vishnu Vinod was inching towards a double-century after finding some solid support from no. 10 Basil Thampi. Kerala resumed on their overnight score of 390/8 and Thampi recorded his second half-century of first-class career. With Vinod, he added 131 runs for the 10th wicket.

He was finally dismissed on 57 when Shubham Sharma had him caught and bowled. Following his dismissal, Kerala could added four more to their total before Sandeep Warrier fell for a first-ball duck, leaving Vinod stranded on 193.
Kerela tried making match of it as they removed two early MP wickets. Aryaman Birla got the start and with four boundaries, had reached 23 when he was run-out. By the 12th over, MP had lost both their openers. Then Patidar and Yash Dubey stabilised the chase, taking the score past the 100-run mark.

The hosts hit back with two more quick strikes, removing Dubey (19) and captain Naman Ojha (4) in the space of two overs. Jalaj Saxena then ended Patidar’s knock on 77 leaving MP 165/5.

Shubham Sharma (44*) and Saransh Jain (11*) saw off the chase with an unbeaten partnership of 29 runs.
